Liverpool playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri is ready to push for an exit from the club at the end of the season, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the 28-year-old, on a reported £80,000-per-week at the club [Source: Spotrac], has told friends that he will leave the Reds next summer.

He has become frustrated with his lack of game time this season, and has accepted that he won’t be able to break up the team’s fearsome front three.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to sanction the Swiss international’s departure mid-season, but may well allow him to leave once the campaign has come to an end.

OPINION

You can understand why Shaqiri would want to leave Liverpool, because it’s not really happened for him since he joined the club. He is a talented player, and he had some big moments in the first half of last season, but he has become a bit of a spare part at Anfield this time round. As the report states, he’s never going to shift Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane from the starting line-up, while the chances of him getting in in midfield are unlikely as well. The return to form of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has probably ended Shaqiri’s chances of claiming a midfield role. With that said, he is kind of in no-mans land now. He has only made four appearances in all competitions this season for a combined 25 minutes [Source: Transfermarkt], which isn’t going to be enough to satisfy anyone. He could be a starter for most Premier League teams and so it’s no surprise that he wants out. But, yes, Klopp likely won’t let him leave in January, meaning he will probably have to wait until the summer.
