A number of Liverpool fans have voiced their agreement with Robbie Fowler after he aired his choice for the Reds’ player of the season.

The topic was broached by journalist James Pearce in The Athletic, who admitted that it was “not an easy decision” but plumped for captain Jordan Henderson. Responding to a tweet from Pearce in which he shared a link to the relevant article in The Athletic, Fowler gave the nod to Sadio Mane, who he said delivered “consistency along with vital goals” (via @Robbie9Fowler).

The Senegal forward, who has recently been linked with a move to Real Madrid (as per Football Insider), has found the net 18 times for Liverpool this season, the squad’s second-highest tally after Mohamed Salah’s 20, along with providing 12 assists. His standout moments from 2019/20 include his stoppage time winner at Aston Villa, a late winner off the bench against Norwich and the decisive goal in the 3-2 win over West Ham. His longest spell without a Premier League goal this season is three games, something that has happened only once since August (as per TransferMarkt).

These Liverpool fans on Twitter backed Fowler’s choice of Mane as the Reds’ player of the season, with one Kopite describing the 28-year-old as “almost the perfect footballer“:
