Plenty of Liverpool fans have voiced their agreement with a plea from John Barnes after the ex-Reds player took to Twitter (via @officialbarnesy) to give his views on the current club season in England.

The 56-year-old claimed that it is impossible to prepare for the next season of English football due to uncertainty over a return date amid the coronavirus pandemic and has called for the 2019/20 season to be completed first before taking any decisions on the fate of clubs throughout the country.

As reported by Sky Sports, the Premier League remains committed to resuming the season when it is safe to do so and is targeting a June restart, with the UK government keen for football to return. That would give Liverpool the chance to collect the two wins they need from their nine remaining fixtures to be crowned champions of England for the first time since 1990.

However, both Netherlands and France took the decision to end their domestic leagues, with the former voiding the 2019/20 season, and there have been numerous calls for the current Premier League campaign to be written off amid the prevalence of COVID-19 in the UK.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter fully agree with Barnes’ desire to complete the current season before starting the next one:
