Liverpool FC are one of the most beloved and followed Premier League football clubs ever. The club has been in existence since 1892 and is apparently the seventh biggest earning team in the world. Their rivalry with Manchester United is legendary and these matches draw some of the biggest crowds ever.

Manchester United vs Liverpool matches see a lot of betting as well. Here are a few moments in the history of Liverpool FC that could be called its greatest.

Bill Shankly

In 1959, a Scottish gentleman by the name of Bill Shankly came to Liverpool as the club’s manager and changed the fortunes of the team forever. Bill made some remarkable changes to the team including bringing in legends like Ron Yeats and Ian St John. Within three years of his joining, the club started their domination in the world of football with three league titles and many other trophies. There is even a great documentary about his life which is discussed here. The Shankly Gates at Anfield stadium in Liverpool is named after this true legend.

1977 European Cup

The Liverpool vs Borussia Monchengladbach (from Germany) European Cup final in 1977 was a match of great excitement. The goals by Tommy Smith and Phil Neal led the team to its victory and Liverpool had won their first ever European Cup. This moment has been called by many LIverpool fans as one of its defining moments.

FA Cup 1989

The finals of the 1989 FA Cup is of special significance to Liverpool fans because it came just a few weeks after the Hillsborough Disaster incident where many fans lost their lives. The air was emotionally charged right from the beginning and the crowds were singing and chanting as the game progressed. Both sides were equally charged and performed their best but it was Ian Rush who clinched the game for Liverpool handing them one of the most thrilling victories ever.

1984 European Cup

The 1984 European Cup final between Liverpool and AS Roma is counted as a significant chapter in the history of Liverpool FC. The match happened in Rome and Liverpool was not met with a lot of warmth in Italy. This made the team really want to win bad against the host nation. The match was nail biting and almost equal going into extra-time and then penalties. It was the legendary goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar who helped Liverpool finally get what they had come here for – the European Cup.

There are a few more moments worth of mention like the arrival of Kenny Dalglish and Joe Fagan. Dalglish joined LIverpool as a player and eventually became a manager. He was the manager of the team when the Hillsborough Disaster happened.
