REPORTS from various media outlets this morning have suggested that Liverpool FC will add to last week’s signing of Fabio Borini by bringing both Clint Dempsey and Joe Allen to Anfield.

Whilst rumour has it that it won’t be all one-way traffic heading into the club; with £20 million apparently being the magic number Newcastle United need to meet if they want to bring Andy Carroll back to ‘Toon’.

Liverpool’s Radio City this morning reported that the club have edged closer to securing the signature of American forward Clint Dempsey, for a fee in the region of £6 million. The Reds look keen to add the versatile Fulham star to a new-look attacking system which includes new signing Fabio Borini.

Scoring goals was the Achilles heel at Anfield last season and with the recent departures of Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez, the Reds are in need of additional firepower – something which Dempsey had in abundance last season, when he hit 23 goals and attained 7 assists in 37 appearances.

Last week it was thought that Fulham, fully aware of Liverpool’s interest in their star man (who has just one year left on his contract), would offer a swap deal involving Andy Carroll. Dempsey’s signature would surely put the big Geordie’s place in the Reds squad in further jeopardy, however Liverpool are thought to want far more for any deal involving their record £35 million signing – something which has now been relayed to Newcastle United, after their initial bid of £13 million was turned down.

£20 million is the magic number said to be acceptable to Liverpool’s owners FSG, who will sanction the £15 million loss if Newcastle come knocking again. Liverpool’s apparent willingness to court interest would suggest his days at the club are numbered, and that has dismayed the striker whose instinct was to remain a Red after settling on Merseyside after a difficult start.

If he were to leave Anfield, Carroll would prefer a return back to the North-East, but as the latest reports suggest, the key to that deal happening lies with the club’s owner, Mike Ashley.

Speaking to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today, Toon Army manager Alan Pardew stated:

“That whole process is a little bit more involved with the chairman and the board at Liverpool. We have got a great team here, a great squad, and if Andy Carroll comes, it will only add to us. It’s simple, really. Sometimes transfers are done at corporate level. I’m slightly detached from that. It will be what it will be.

“It’s been said that he’s available and if we are involved, then we will be involved because of the figures, not anything else, because we know he’s good enough.”

Back to the potential new faces heading to Anfield this summer and according to The Telegraph (to name just one of many), Brendan Rodgers has moved a step closer to being reunited with yet another of his young prodigies (after capturing Borini on Friday) by signing Swansea City midfield star Joe Allen.

It had been thought an agreement was in place between Swansea and their former coach, in which Rodgers would not raid the Welsh side for any players. However Allen himself is thought to have asked the Swans not to deny him the opportunity to join the Reds, after being made aware of Liverpool’s serious interest.

The Reds could look to push through a deal before the Olympic Games begin, when Allen will be representing Team GB (alongside Craig Bellamy), whilst a fee similar to what the Reds paid for Borini should secure the Welshman’s services.

rodge is a top coach. hes needs time and support. we dont have the huge finances other clubs have. we need to accept this. therefore we have to be cleverer in the market. anyone who believes any carroll is a top stiker, makes me laugh. just because he cost 35mill doesnt mean he is anywhere near that bracket. his record last year says it all. we will be lucky to get 15mill for him.

giv carroll a chance, i tink ur problem is finance…if am 2 say BR’ should giv carrol a little chance i belives he wil pick off…pls fans dont blow off my ears….!

    AC IS A DISGRACE !!
he should be putting his hand in his own pocket and buying a one way ticket out of respect to LFC.
18 months ,5 star rock’n’roll lifestyle, best available resources way too long to try and prove he can make it!!
if you cant achieve in your young years with englands greatest football family, you never will.
get off your big lazy lard arse, head north-east on the bus that says ” we are going to window- licker land” if you dont know –

you are a spastic. football is played with intelligence my boy. i dont know what you’re thinking when you cross that white line cause you have not shown me enough. the ball comes from reina long – hey why dont the use him as a centre half. absolute waste of 35 million.
OUT! OUT! OUT! MONEY COMES AND GOES, GET WHAT YOU CAN FOR HIM AND GET SOME ONE WHO HAS PASSION, COMMITMENT AND SOME BASIC BALL SKILLS.
TO ALL THE DEMPSEY HATERS, he is 29 and has enough technique and football brain to make it anywhere in england. you would be surprised who would like to have him in their squad.

FSG are trying to steady the ship with huge wage bill and no Champ’s League. But fear Carroll won’t be moving anywhere. We were shafted silly by the geordies on transfer fee. Then paid Carroll £80k per week. Newcastle will take him on loan as nobody else is now interested. Dempsey will cost £10. Also if Carroll is rated at £20m then Swansea will want then same for Joe Allen. Wage bill is draining us silly with Cole, Aquilani, Johnson & Gerrard on over £100k p w.

I find it amazing that after 8 goals and 11 assists in the PL and 11 goals and 13 assists over all. Playing out of position iun a 4-4-2 formatin some feel Theo walcott is a waite of space. Whilst playing on the right and left in his favourite position for Liverpool Stewart Downing is unlucky?

Theo Walcott will be a superstar in a 4-3-3 and would be a massive upgrade.

This could all blow up and make Pool look even more of a laughing stock. Carroll leaves for £10m goes on to score 20 league goals in season … Brendon is shown to be out of his depth and sacked by Jan.. Where does the chopping & changing stop ???

    • FSL says:

Totally agree. BR has had a decent prem’ league season with Swansea. Happened before that several promoted clubs have come up an surprised then struggled second season. No real pressure so we have no idea what will happen when chips are down. Only sign of that was from him time at Reading when he was sacked.. Could all blow up V soon !

Spending 120 million pounds on crap players has set us back years. Last year i was pulling my hair out at the thought of paying 20 million for downing adding to mr 35 million. Thinking this is surely a false story… Nope, king kenny stricks again.

Sell Carrol, Adam and please add Jo Cole to the list. His latest comments of praying for Rogers to get the job are no more than arse licking. The fact is, he was very poor, passionless and unfit to run for 90 min. I would be happy to see the above go and no more additions. At least the club can look into the reserves and start to build slowly. Liverpool are a catalog of mismanagement . Let’s put the house in order before we start building another level

I really want to believe in the new regime at LFC, but i can’t! As much as BR has a new slate, he should be restructuring, not giving mediocres a chance; to mess up again! Joe Cole is 30 and earns 100k, Spearing will never be a Strootman, Maxi, Kuyt, Aurelio are gone, from the rumours going round, Bellamy will go too. If FSG is serious at all, they need to provide him with nothing less than £50m in addition to whateva he generates from sales. Maxi, Kuyt, Aurelio, Bellamy, Carroll, Spearing, Carragher, Doni, Pacheco, J Cole, Eccleston, B Jones should fetch £35m in sales and free up about £875k per week in wages. With this, BR has got £85m to buy players.

  • Mike says:

    With £100m, he will conveniently buy A.Johnson 11m, G.Ramirez 15m, L.Fer 5m, J.Allen 8.5m, J.Guidetti 8m, J.Butland 7m, J.Rodriguez 6m, R.Falcao 38.5m. Total £94m.
Unfortunately, he is making d same mistake AVB made @ chelsea, he should have brought in new players and sold many. If he is not careful, his magnanimity will be his downfall. The truth be told however, David Morres is d cause of all this. If he had sold to DIC and Sheikh Al Maktoum, Rafa would have snapped up d likes of silva, villa, jovetic, turan, falcao, etc and i’m sure we’d have added another champions league, 2 fa cups and at least a league title. Due to Moores’ GREED however, we’re stuck with the poor FSG who will not be here had it not been for Hicks and Gillet…all i can hope for is that some mega rich arab family offers to buy LFC cos at this rate, LFC will be relegated to the europa league places. Utd, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham have more spending power!
