THE news on Thursday night that Liverpool had agreed a deal with SC Heerenveen for Oussama Assaidi came as a surprise to Reds fans around the globe. Before Thursday, Assaidi and Liverpool had scarcely been mentioned in the same sentence – the Moroccan winger had instead been linked with other clubs by the media, such as Ajax and Fulham. With the fee for Assaidi said to be between £2.5m and £3m, Liverpool will hoping that Assaidi turns out to be a bargain, while Reds fans will wonder if the low fee means Brendan Rodgers has no more money left to spend on new players.
Before the deal for Assaidi was announced, Rodgers had talked about using loan deals to bolster the Liverpool squad. This can be seen as another sign that the Northern Irishman has little left in his transfer kitty.
