LFC managerDURING a press conference prior to the weekend, Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers was philosophical when talking about the Reds missing out on transfer target Willian, reported Sky Sports.

During his weekly press conference Rodgers also took time to explain that Napoli had not made an improved bid to sign central defender Martin Skrtel.

His main talking point though was the failed bid to sign Brazilian attacking player Willian from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

Reds boss Rodgers was quoted as saying:

“We think over the course of the summer we’ve been very ambitious. The attempt was to get in players to improve the team, some might say too ambitious but this is Liverpool Football Club, we’re trying to get the best players we possibly can.

“As I said, it’s one where if I can’t get them it, we’ve just got to move on. We’ve got 11 days to go, we have to do anything we possibly can because it hasn’t changed. If you’re going to claim the league, you’ve got to have quality and you have to get the best players into your club to help you climb.

“That’s our aim. So of course if you don’t get the player you want, there’s always that disappointment, you can’t dwell on it.

“There’s still a chunk of the window left and we did some business earlier on in the window, which was very good, and now if we can finish off in these remaining days and get some players in, it would help us and end a very good window for us.”

All Liverpool fans hope that Rodgers is true to his word.

At the rate we are going we won’t b getting any big signing. A central defender is a top priority.

  • Leon says:

A defender sure always need to make defense strong but an attacking player we need more to win us the games and create chancers.

  • Mikey says:

Rodgers should go for mata who Jose said he listen to offers for him…make a big signin instead off waitin for Tottenham to out bid us in every transfer targets …joke we take too long to make the deal happen,we offer money and nothing happens that’s all we do ,Tottenham offer money and have players signed wit in 24 hours off offer,,come on Rodgers give us liverpool fans a big signing

    • papers says:

Comolli apparently suggested Mata as a target to Dalglish. However, Dalglish was more interested in Downing instead.

  • Raam says:

Whatever happened to the statement that LFC will wrap up all transfer dealings early this summer..! We still need a forward, a winger and a centreback. All in 11 days. Hmm…

  • Mikey says:

Yea and players they got in early are hardly big names to be fair maybe kolo toure..,I agree raam we need a centre back a winger if not 2 wingers and a provein goal scorer..if we don’t get them in wit in the 11 days we could be in for another long season mid table again…,

  • Chris says:

BR. It’s simple sign Ajax pair, Ericsson and alderweild ,and if real come sniffing for Suarez ,simply do a player plus cash, benzema plus 10 million to further push the dagger into wengers back, it’s the only way we will get our chance of the premier league ,and it would only cost about 15mil if we get cash with Benzema

  • Jim says:

Have to agree with allaboutanfield and Mikey, we can’t seem to compete with teams with more money than LFC. I say forget marquee signings and find little gems like Phillipe Countinho and Danny Sturridge. I think we need a central defender and another striker and perhaps a left winger. But we have to sign at least a defender and striker before the window closes. Brendan is doing a great job, but FSG have to back him with good quality signings. We can’t get Champions League on the cheap, we have to spend to improve and add depth to the squad.

  • Mikey says:

I 100% agree….like the Ajax pair eriksen nd alderweild would be top class players for liverpool by signing them is would lay down a marker that liverpool Fc means business…Suarez transfer saga is bad for liverpool fc just sell him no player should think there bigger then any club …as you say player plus cash till from real mad would be no brainier like

  • Xabi says:

Either konoplyanka or yarmolenko for the wing position and tiago illori and maybe Muriel but that’s never gna happen..

    • 5_European_Cups says:

Agree about Konoplyanka or Yarmolenka. Not so much on Muriel. I’d take the first two or Ljajic. Seems Ljajic has heart set on Milan but Fiorentina doesn’t want to sell to a rival like us with Suarez to Arsenal.

  • 5_European_Cups says:

Benzema will not join. So just forget about that. Too late to sell Suarez. If we’re not competing for top 4 come January, he’s off. Biggest priority is CB. Rodgers knows this and will get one in. Papa, Alderweireld, Sakho, or Ilori. In that order. Who cares about “marquee” signing. Doesn’t mean jack. Adem Ljajic is who they need to go all out for. Fits the profile. Only 21, can play anywhere up top or attacking mid. This guy had better stats in a tougher league than Willian for half the price. And he’s younger. Last year of contract and the rumored price of £15M should get it done.

  • Nickyboy says:

It must be very frustrating for Rodgers as every transfer that he has got in witch is 24m worth is with the money he has generated from selling players witch was 27m so in fact we’re 3m up YEAHHH but on a serious note FSG have no intention of spending big with there own money it’s all a smoke screen to make it look like we’re in for a player to show the fans that they mean business well in truth they don’t want to spend if they don’t have to the bottom line is they don’t love the club and all they are doing is managing our expectations I really really hope I’m wrong but I cannot see anyone else being signed unless it’s a loan or a free I don’t blame Brendan his hands are tied FSG are businessman in it for the money not for the love of football or this great club…..sadly!! YNWA

  • Ben says:

Top players dont want yo come and play for Rodgers . He commands no respect. Players want to play for good managers , managers who will improve them . Rodgers is just some fat bloke who got sacked by Reading

    • 5_European_Cups says:

You are an idiot. Rodgers is a good manager. To see the progression of Sturridge and Coutinho and the way he handled the Suarez fiasco is top notch. Of coarse you’re probably just some fat a$$ troll yourself.

    • Patrick says:

Hey Ben don’t you think Suarez, Ibe, Stirling, Sturridge and Coutinho haven’t improved. Pretty silly comment to be honest.

Willian is simply a mercenary as we have seen by his actions with Spurs and Dortmund can offer CL football which we can’t .

Every manager has been sacked in some time or another. Unless we offer stupid money and wages players won’t come and you know what I want Liverpool to be around for another 200 years and not go into receivership like we almost did with Hicks and Gillette.

  • 5_European_Cups says:

Nickyboy- I agree to an extent. Seems unless its a loan or under £10M they don’t put the effort in. They have to realize without CL football the only thing they can offer is money. I believe FSG want to get us back on top but they got burned giving Kenny all that money. So can’t really blame them to be hesitant. As the squad stands right now I see no better than 6th. Which means Suarez will leave and another year not being able to get top talent. Getting top 4 this year is essential. Or we run the risk of being stuck mid table for awhile. And Coutinho leaves.

  • abd aziz bin abd hamid says:

Rogers is a very good manager… Nowdays so many players go for money rather than football.. eg. Willian… Iam a liverpool fan…. I want to see Rogers go for Roberto Filmino… The Brazilian play in Germany… He’s much better and younger than Willian…. Please go for him… !

  • Raam says:

If the idea of a good manager is some one who can only work with more than £100m transfer kitty..than he is not a good manager. Refuse that fund for that person and he will move to somewhere else. Parasites in disguise. How can BR gain respect if some people wont even let him do his job. Constantly criticising his every action. If people want JMourinho or Pep Guardiola, then they should go support Chelsea or B.Munich.So far BR has done a good job bringing in decent players with the measly fund provided to him. I just wish him he acheives his goal at the end of the season. Qualify for CL and at least a domestic trophy. And shut some poisonous mouths. Funny that these people wants stars to come and play for LFC and ar the same time complain we’re not giving academy youngters chance.

    • anderson says:

Allen Borini assaidi sahin aspas Alberto ? Mostly rubbish

Only coutinho and sturridge have improved team

  • patrick idrifua says:

Rogers is a gd manager, but p’ple wont understand if they always think dat his only aim is 2 take lfc 2 CL, for a great club like lfc its a matter of playing in CL group stages only but wining it & that needs a gd foundation

  • patrick idrifua says:

Raam, u a perfectly right many p’ple do not support BR but to me his wisdom alone is even enough to be compared to Jose, pep ,etc I will expect those idiots to search for where those coaches started & even support their clubs ,they were once like BR

  • Chris says:

Ok some good comments coming through, and it’s good to see I’m not the only one frustrated with Liverpool stuck in mid table. I wonder if the likes of BR actually reads these comments ,of so you’re doing a good job(so far), and I agreed the treatment of Suarez was spot on NO PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB, but if you do sell Suarez, don’t let it bite you in the a$$ and sell to a rival. Remember there’s only 4 cl spots. If you’re reading this BR buy the Ajax pair then we will finish in top 4 save money on the Greek kebab player and buy 2 instead

  • Funnie says:

BR needs one or two more quality players and im sure the team can qualify for CL, we dont really need all the stars in the world to achieve that we need dedicated and determined players who really wants to play for the club. The dortmund team is a good example . I think BR is a good manager. YNWA

  • Confido Okubo says:

BR is by far a better manager compare 2 a doomed 2 fail AVB. If injuries permits LFC ‘ll surely qualify 4 the much yearned CL, and dont be surprised 2 see Tottenham finsh bellow 4th as the Bale factor stands 2 rabel there chances. Just little more depth with quality, and we ‘re done. LFC 4 LIFE!!!
