LFC managerDURING a press conference prior to the weekend, Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers was philosophical when talking about the Reds missing out on transfer target Willian, reported Sky Sports.

During his weekly press conference Rodgers also took time to explain that Napoli had not made an improved bid to sign central defender Martin Skrtel.

His main talking point though was the failed bid to sign Brazilian attacking player Willian from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

Reds boss Rodgers was quoted as saying:

“We think over the course of the summer we’ve been very ambitious. The attempt was to get in players to improve the team, some might say too ambitious but this is Liverpool Football Club, we’re trying to get the best players we possibly can.

“As I said, it’s one where if I can’t get them it, we’ve just got to move on. We’ve got 11 days to go, we have to do anything we possibly can because it hasn’t changed. If you’re going to claim the league, you’ve got to have quality and you have to get the best players into your club to help you climb.

“That’s our aim. So of course if you don’t get the player you want, there’s always that disappointment, you can’t dwell on it.

“There’s still a chunk of the window left and we did some business earlier on in the window, which was very good, and now if we can finish off in these remaining days and get some players in, it would help us and end a very good window for us.”

All Liverpool fans hope that Rodgers is true to his word.

Ummm, I seem to recall a guy at m.u. taking a few years to win a single cup, and he became the longest serving mngr in history, When you build ,it’s from the bottom up, and I reckon the Irish are some of the best at building things, Willian was really up for Liverpool fc, if Chelski think they are so clever wait until someone else offers him higher wages,

Much better if LFC can sign Mamadou Sakho and Kryiakos Papadoulos together. This 2 players enough to give protection for LFC fortress this season.

If LFC is strongest in financial they won’t be struggle to get signing whoever and whatever players they are dream it.New owner John Henry and FSG is not so good so far to become LFC owner. They make new transfer policy but they cannot fullfill it the condition very well.Young talent is good for development system but they not able to pay or meet asking price to realize the dealing.1 by 1 target players are missing away and they can just give a little smile ( frusted ).I think this is 1 provent that LFC owner never give fully support for the clubs.Untill now they cannot get sign marquee signing because never having “big budget”.The real is only just get bargain fee.

Rodgers is an hypocrite . He won’t buy any player he is an idiot. He is just lying

  • John says:

Roger is a good coach. So far majority of his signings are good. With respect to this. Liverpool owner should give him the finance power to obtain a big signing in the range of 20 to 30 million This will help to attract n retain the star player in the world. Beside it will also help to project that the team is desire to reach the target of top 4 this season which will retain n attract new n existing liverpool fan n sponsorship. Base on the current team, the most it can only challenge for the Europa league spot which is unacceptable.

  • trevor says:

All we need is an attacking midfielder. puzzle solved

  • vicky says:

Like a promise made to ladies on top of bed.. I will… I will…and the transfer window is quick windling down….at last broken promises will be achieve. With spur suqard now we LFC is still far to top 4.

  • Sayyid says:

I think if we get ericksen and a popdlopous then we shall take the lion’s share this season

  • Mikey says:

But to be fair BR has brought in 26 mil worth off talent already and he was bidding 32mill for that William lad who not worth it so to be fair lads there is money there to spend wisely ,like Suarez bought for 22 mill I think that’s money well spend..you get the Ajax pair for 32mil instead in bidding for player who hasn’t proved himself William..BR has us playing seaious football and the Ajax pair fit right into our style off play they should be our main aim now bring them two in means business…..and maybe ya winger

  • arn kedah says:

Bring erikseen papaduolus to anfield settle problem I think lfc no more money

  • boateng says:

We’re red blooded no one is stronger than all of us.in BR we trust top 4 is ours

  • Raam says:

    Forward-Damiao, Winger-Eriksen, Centrebacks-3 choices:-1)-Papadopoulus,2)-Sakho,3)-Llori…what do you guys think?

  • stevie says:

I think I’d prefer to see us sign will hughes and stop chasing after lots of over rated money grabbers. If they’re all as fickle as will.I.an about who they want to play for then we really are wasting our time

    • phil says:

Stevie, I think Raam is spot on with his choice Damiao, Eriksen and the choice of center backs. These are the signings that will make a big difference and any true Liverpool supporter would agree.

      • Phil07 says:

Coutinho and Sturridge were clever signings and not expensive ones. Easy for armchair fans to spend money, after all they don’t pay the bills. Have faith in the management. Support the club.

    • Andrew says:

Over rated money grabbers? Do you mean players who win you trophies? We’re not Everton we are Liverpool FC and if you want to support a mid table win nothing team go follow one but Liverpool should never be that sort of club

      • Phil07 says:

Get a reality check. We have targeted a number of top level players who are not interested to join us because we are not a champions league club. This kind of “we are Liverpool” arrogance is what we hate most about man utd fans so why copy them ?

  • papers says:

I have my doubts that Liverpool will bring anyone else in before the window shuts. So far, all incoming players have been funded by outgoing players. It’s obvious that FSG won’t go above their valuation of a potential target so any other team can bid a few million more than we’re offering and we then lose that target. This policy is a direct result of the massive overspend by Dalglish and Comolli. In some ways this is a good policy as a lot of players are overpriced anyway but it does leave us at the mercy of teams who are willing to spend that bit extra to land a player.

    • roythered says:

A lot of kennys’ spend was also funded by players out.i.e. Torres, Babbel. So FSG has not really invested that much in the team.

      • Andrew says:

Not invested, they’re taking from the club unless we go big before the window ends I for one will be anti FSG

      • Phil07 says:

Before we get into slagging off FSG we should remember we were on the verge of going bust until they rescued us

        • anderson says:

Blah blah blah . Fsg got us on the cheap. We were never in danger of going bust , someone would have bought us

  • roythered says:

Ambitious? never stood a chance and they know it. They want their players on minimum wage. Good job they did’nt get a top manager, he would have told them where to get off by now.

    • Andrew says:

Why do you think Rodgers was appointed so they could cost cut. Like the fact Rodgers stood up to them with his comments on William, it wasn’t a football decision and he would have been perfect for is. I.e I wanted him and the owners wouldn’t pay to get him

      • Phil07 says:

That isn’t what he said. Willian choosing Tottenham over Liverpool was based on finance not football is what he said. A player from the joorbachian camp. Glad we didn’t sign him

  • Fergal Roche says:

Lori ,Sakho,Erickson and Benteke to give the team a plan B .

  • Denis says:

For me a center-back is important for now if martin wont recover soon, forward i do thnk so b’se suarez, aspas n dan are enough 4 now unlike at the begening of last season only suarez, with the situation of the team now br can prove lfc as best in EPL.

  • Oz says:

Make a cheecky offer for Mata, get Sakho and try for Damiao. YNWA
