After a slow start to the current season, Adam Lallana has shown briefly that there is a quality player in there somewhere that is still finding his feet and again, for England at the weekend, the midfielder showed again that he has great technical ability – something which could become a key factor in the Reds current season being a successful one.

Speaking to NBC Sports, Lallana has intimated that his grandfather is Spanish, from Madrid, specifically and he said “I don’t know if it influences my game, and he never takes credit for it. He isn’t a massive football fan, actually.

“Interestingly, though, my idol growing up was former Real great Zidane. I watched a lot of him growing up. The way he plays. Even now, he’s a coach at Real but I still go back and watch those clips.”

And though he may never go on to emulate the great Frenchman in either ability or achievements, but the former Southampton captain has shown since making the step up into the Premier League that he has talent to spare and, once he has settled, Adam should show the skills and qualities that Brendan Rodgers paid so highly for.

He went on, “Working for Brendan has been brilliant, he’s a great manager, he’s very hands-on, works very much with the players, and his man-management skills are good.

“My aim for this season is to settle in as well as I can to the group and contribute as much as possible to getting into the top four again. And hopefully win a bit of silverware. We feel that if we keep working hard, a really good performance is around the corner.”
