Markovic was outstanding against Sunderland on Saturday

Despite Lazar Markovic scoring what would eventually be the winner on Saturday and turning in a man of the match award winning performance, it was the quietly efficient platform that Lucas Leiva provided that allowed the likes of Markovic to shine.

But despite his own performance, Lucas believes that Liverpool’s young stars will only continue to get better. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com about Markovic, Lucas said “We know that the Premier League is a hard league to come and play in straight away, so he’s just improving all the time and today he showed again that he could be very important for the future of the club.”

And regarding Coutinho, he said “I think Coutinho can get anywhere he wants. His quality and his movement and his final pass. Philippe has been here for two years now and you can see he will only get better.

“They are young players. When you have difficult moments during the season, normally the young players struggle a bit more. But they have the quality and I think they will be very important.”

With the likes of Markovic and Can and a number of other young stars, Liverpool have the basis for a very good team in the future, do you agree with Lucas that they can all make a big contribution to the Reds this season?

Lucas getting carried away, we are only 8th and scraping results by the odd goal, so far we’ve only played well against Spurs away and Swansea at home and we are in mid January already. Also heard a rumour Coutinho wants out if things don’t improve by the summer.
