Liverpool set for another transfer blow

Liverpool were linked with a number of left backs over the summer as they looked to provide competition for the much-maligned Alberto Moreno.

After missing out on Ben Chilwell after refusing to meet Leicester City’s £10million valuation, links with German international Jonas Hector and AC Milan’s Mattia De Sciglio were also made.

In what seems likely to be another blow to Jurgen Klopp’s search for a left back, Sportmediaset in Italy are reporting that to ward off interest from Juventus, Napoli and the Reds (who they say made a bid for full back earlier in the summer), Milan are preparing to give the 23 year old De Sciglio a new contract with his current deal expiring in 2018.

While Chilwell and Hector have signed new contracts at their respective clubs this summer, De Sciglio’s future at Milan did look far less certain until this latest news. Although he started in the 4-2 loss against Napoli last week, he was an unused substitute against Torino on the opening day of the season. He is fighting for a starting place with Luca Antonelli in Vincenzo Montella’s side and although he is regular at international level, the fact that he was not a a guaranteed starter at club level was one of the reasons his departure was a possibility.
