Liverpool and Manchester United scouts have been watching MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps matches in recent weeks according to The Province newspaper, and they believe that young winger Alphonso Davies are the clubs’ main target.

Former Whitecaps defender Andy O’Brien is now a Liverpool scout and The Province reporter Marc Weber reports O’Brien has been at two Vancouver Whitecaps matches in the last two weeks, although when asked by Weber, O’Brien declined to say who he was watching. He was seen watching the Whitecaps face Colorado Rookies as well as the 4-1 victory for the Whitecaps over Central FC in a CONCACAF Champions League match.

Manchester United meanwhile will have their scout Jorge Alvial watching Davies when the Whitecaps face Seattle Sounders in a MLS match on Sunday.

15 year old Davies was born in Liberia and is yet to gain his Canadian passport. United and Liverpool maybe hoping to sign up Davies before he signs a professional contract with the Whitecaps at the age of 18. After making his debut against Orlando City, Davies has gone on to make 8 appearances in MLS so far this season with Vancouver sitting second from bottom of the Western Conference.
