Liverpool have agreed a £500,000 a deal to bring midfielder Luca Stephenson to the club from Sunderland, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claim that the 15-year-old dubbed the new Jordan Henderson by some was happy to stay where he was but it was such an attractive deal proposed by the Reds that he simply had to join.

The Sun report that Stephenson has been discussing a move to Anfield after beginning talks with the Reds a few weeks ago and will go straight into the club’s youth ranks.

OPINION

It seems that the Reds have scooped up another exciting prospect in this all but officially confirmed deal. The Reds must really rate Stephenson in order to invest a six-figure sum in his talent so early on in his career. However is it exciting that the Merseyside giants are continuing to boost their ranks at academy level as it means a healthy amount of talented players will continue to filter through to the first-team. While not much is overly known about Stephenson, for him to be compared to Henderson is a promising reflection to his potential. Hopefully Stephenson is able to make the most of his talents at the Reds and progress into a player of the same quality of Henderson if not better as it would show that the Reds were wise to invest money into acquiring his services at a young age. It will be a while before we know that is the case though as at the age of 15-years-old, Stephenson’s career is in the very early stages.
