Liverpool are among a number of clubs who are in pursuit of Peterborough midfielder Ricky-Jade Jones, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that Manchester United, Tottenham, Southampton and Burnley all had scouts at London Road on Saturday when the 18-year-old made his league debut for the Posh.

It is understood that Liverpool, as well as Leicester, Manchester City and Arsenal, are keeping tabs on the “lightning-quick” midfielder but Spurs are so far the only team to have made an approach.

The Mail claims that the North London club has already had a £2million approach rejected by Peterborough.

OPINION

There are a lot of clubs who have their sights on Jones so Liverpool will need to monitor this situation very closely if they want to stand any chance of signing the teenager. Jones can play in the centre of the midfield or out wide. Versatility is a good thing for young players to have as they aim to break into first-team football and that is exactly what Jones is doing this season with Peterborough. He scored a goal on his professional debut in the FA Cup win against Stevenage earlier this month and is now starting to feature in League One. From Jones’ point of view, he might be better off spending the rest of the season at London Road to see how many more appearances he can get. However teams like Liverpool, Man United and Spurs are always going to have a pulling factor that teenagers like Jones cannot resist. Spurs are the most interested team so far it seems, but they might have been put off by seeing their £2million approach being rejected.
