German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach have both entered the race for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the 19-year-old has emerged as the centre of a Europe-wide battle for his signature, after Jurgen Klopp sanctioned his loan exit in January.

Brewster is said to have come close to moving to the Bundesliga on a permanent basis a year ago, and was particularly on the verge of joining Monchengladbach before Klopp convinced him to sign a new contract at Anfield.

Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leeds United are all thought to be in for the teenager, and the decision on where he goes will be dependent on which team can promise the most game time for him.

OPINION

If where Brewster goes is down to game time, then you have to think neither of these German sides will get him. They are both in the midst of a Bundesliga title fight. Monchengladbach are top and Dortmund are fifth, so they are unlikely to hand significant minutes to an unproven teenager. Dortmund have Paco Alcacer as their main man up top, but can also operate with the likes of Marco Reus, Jadon Sancho and Thorgan Hazard as a false nine. Then there’s Monchengladbach, who have both Marcus Thuram and Breel Embolo up front. Villa have Wesley as their bonafide number one striker, but not much behind him. Leeds have both Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah, so Brewster may not get much football there. Palace, though, are really short on genuine goalscorers. Jordan Ayew isn’t prolific by any means, while the less said about Christian Benteke the better. So perhaps Selhurst Park is where he’ll end up, and Klopp will then just have to hope he’s ready for regular Premier League football.
