Reds face competition for Mkhitaryan

Armenia LFCACCORDING to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are facing some stiff competition in their race to get the signature of Armenian star Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder has been a target for boss Brendan Rodgers this season, but the Northern Irishman is not the sole seeker of Mkhitaryan’s services.

Competition from other top European clubs will pose the club more trouble than the £20 million price tag that has been slapped on the 24 year old, who bagged an impressive 25 goals in the Ukranian league last season, and Rodgers believes that he is the perfect player to add the ‘extra 20 goals’ that will steer them closer to Champions League football.

This poses another roadblock to Liverpool’s progress with Mkhitaryan – lack of European football after their seventh place finish last season may look mellow in comparison to the promise of European football from other reportedly interested clubs, namely Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City.

However, the other clubs’ interests is merely speculation at the moment, whilst Liverpool’s interest is already known to be genuine, and the signing of the talented youngster will signal Liverpool’s intent to claw their way back to the very top, as well as maintain the ability to pluck out talented players.

Earlier in the season, the three time Armenian player of the year was reported as saying that he wanted to play for ‘one of the strongest clubs in the world.’

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

He was to fly in for a medical with Liverpool according to reports today.£23m agreed. First big money signing this summer. Does anyone know what happened with C.Ericksons situation? Suddenly the news about him just went cold.

Eriksen is still at Ajax but he wants a move I dont know if he is talking with other clubs at the moment but the link to LFC and Dortmund was just speculations, Mkhitaryan is a better player than Eriksen But I would still like us to get a holding mid like Diame or Biglia or Matuidi, but this guy im just exited about this transfer cant wait to see him in the red shirt! YNWA.

  • Raam says:

It would be great to have them both at Liverpool but our midfeild will be a bit congested with the few more names being mentioned..

  • Chai says:

Dortmund just rubbished reports on their alleged interest in Eriksen, also stating they are ipmore interested in getting Kevin de Bruyne. Back to this report, this awfully sounds like the agent or Shahktar wants to squeeze more money from Liverpool by throwing out baseless speculation by the mega rich clubs.

We better be quick with mkhitaryan. If other top clubs join chase then Liverpool will miss out

Eriksson was never a possibility. He wasn’t interested. It was just wishful thinking by fans
