Rodgers has come in for a great deal of criticism and the pressure will only have mounted after today’s rather predictable defeat

It’s hard to fathom, but Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers stated that he believes the Reds should have taken something from the team’s visit to Manchester today, perhaps even all three points.

Speaking following the game, Rodgers said “It’s not often you come here and create that many chances. We won here 3-0 last year and probably didn’t even create half of the opportunities. For the goalkeeper to get man of the match tells you everything.

“It was a side of the game I was looking for the team to improve on – we created more chances today than what we have done for maybe five or six games, so I was pleased with that aspect but obviously disappointed with the first and third goals we conceded. The second one was clearly offside and was a poor decision at a critical time in the game.

“I don’t think with the players we had and how they worked, we could have done any more. If we don’t make mistakes, the game is much closer.”

Having been on the receiving end of a three-nil scoreline is in stark contrast to the same result in the Reds favour in the reverse game last year and will no doubt only continue to heap the pressure on the Rodgers.

He went on “We changed the shape of the team and played 3-4-3 to try to get more bodies in the central area in the final third of the field, and give us an extra body to build the game from behind. We had speed on the sides that could go and support that.

“We were behind in the first half, but I thought we were the better side. We could have shown a little bit more quality at times in the final pass, but I always felt we had opportunities to score.

“In the second half, we needed the next goal in the game. Once it goes to 3-0, it can be really difficult, but we still kept going right until the very end and I could not have asked any more from the players we had.

“For me, the whole scenario is about looking to build the team again. We had a team that was growing for a couple of years, but the squad has changed now through injuries and whatnot. We’re having to recapture the team ethos again, and that’s something we’re looking to build towards.

“It’s not easy, but whenever it’s consistent that you’re not scoring goals, you’re always going to try to find the solutions for that. There’ll be a number of reasons why it changes, but the bottom line is, we just haven’t been consistent enough over the course of the season.”

With Liverpool clearly having had the better of large swathes of the game, it will serve as very poor consolation to fans who have been served another helping of poor defending and finishing, followed by the same old excuses from the Liverpool manager.

Is Brendan’s position becoming more untenable and, if so, at what point will he begin to audibly lose the fans at Anfield as other have, in the past? Let us know your thoughts.

Liverpool’s position is very black indeed. A manager who’s a total clown, players who simply aren’t good enough and confidence at basement level. 2015 will be a very long, very painful year with one defeat following another. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them finish in the bottom six.

Yes, could have won it. Rogers is a positive thinking kind of guy. It will be alright david. As long as we smoke the same stuff as Brendan we will all be happy. Win, lose or draw. It’s all about spin, perception, how you view a loss etc.

I saw the man as a charlatan from the start. A fraudster that fooled many.

Get rid of this clown. 3 strikers on the books. Borrini, Lambert, Ballotelli , yet no strikers start.
Lucas fit, playing well in the holding role. Round peg in round holes etc not started. Can -Lucas should be starting matches such as this ones. A must not lose game away from home.
The list of mistakes is endless. We made mistakes in the transfer market , granted but we should be higher up the table with a man who can Marshall a defense, grasp tactics and use his resources carefully.

This man has to be fired immediately. He is damaging us with every game that passes. FSG, I know You will fire him end of the season, but consider firing him now. Might salvage the season.

I think it is unfair fr him to be sacked. He lost his top striker and lost suarez too. It is true that balotelli should be the main man but we forget what kind of striker he is. He is not the striker who would stay close to the goal, he is rather the one who would drop deep and create sparks from there. There were statements made by him that he normally play with 2 strikers than a lone striker. With this said it would come to BR on how should he starts the team. But why not he do that? That’s more aof a question he might know himself.

But then again, things doesn’t go his way. Markovic should be a hit but it doesn’t come out yet. Sturridge injury was not part of his plans. Lovren not adapting well where he should be the one who controls and organized the defends. Additions need to be added due to lack of depth. I would like he to be sacked when his work is at his best but yet to bring results. Not at his work in the middle of the road. My 2 cents.
