Player ratings: LIVERPOOL 1-2 Crystal Palace

|
Clyne was highly impressive against Rubin Kazan tonight

Clyne had a better game than some of his counterparts today

GK/Defence

Simon Mignolet – Distribution was again an issue, as Mignolet was slow releasing the ball, time and time again. And even when he did his kicking and throwing were very hit and miss, often gifting Palace possession back. Has to take some blame for the second goal, as his weak push/punch fell straight to Scott Dann. Regardless of how poor the defence still are at times, you have to wonder what a difference a top class goalkeeping addition could make. Rating – 5.5

Nathaniel Clyne – Clyne was the better of Liverpool’s defenders today and managed to get forward to decent effect. His crossing was erratic however, much like many of his team mates.  Rating – 7

Martin Skrtel – Much like defeat can’t always be indicative of a team being the worse of the two, conceding two goals isn’t indicative of a poor defensive performance. At least not individually. Skrtel was solid, for the most part, and managed to not get caught out too many times by Bolasie’s pace and trickery. Can take no blame for either goal, much like Sakho and Lovren. Rating – 6.5

Mamadou Sakho – The French defender was solid until his withdrawal, but his injury now throws up many more concerns for Klopp, with 9 of his first team squad out injured. Rating – 6.5

Alberto Moreno – Wasn’t at his best, but supported the attack well and managed to remain solid at the back. His end-product was poor though, and it is something the young full back really needs to work on. Rating – 6.5
